January 2012 Labour Force Statistics

Alberta’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9% in January 2012, unchanged from December 2011 and down 1.0 percentage point from the same month last year. This rate was the lowest among all the provinces in the country.

Alberta continues to forecast strong job growth

The Alberta government is forecasting that employment levels will remain strong over the next decade in the province with thousands of jobs generated, while challenges to grow the labour force will remain.

The new Occupational Demand and Supply Outlook 2011-2021 forecasts that Alberta will generate more than 606,000 jobs and roughly 492,000 new workers will join the labour force by 2021.
